The extra mile (useful English vocabulary you'll hear in the podcast): 

• a conflict = a serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one
• a situation = a set of circumstances in which one finds oneself; a state of affairs
• a sanction = a penalty for disobeying a law or rule
• to freeze a bank account = an action taken that prevents some transactions from occurring in the account
• to shell = to use an explosive artillery projectile or bomb
• a protest = a public show of disapproval of or opposition to something
• a riot = a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd
• a refugee = a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster
• to flee = to run away from a place or situation of danger
• a bomb shelter = an enclosed space or structure designed to protect people from explosive weapons such as bombs or missiles
• a basement = the floor of a building which is partly or entirely below ground level
• humanitarian aid = material and logistic assistance to people who need help
• grassroots = the basic level of society or of an organization especially as viewed in relation to higher or more centralized positions of power
• "an outpouring of support" = a gush, flow, or fast stream of assistance
• to give a shoutout to [someone] = a public greeting to a named person, especially on the radio or on television

Hey everybody, Christina here. I hope that you are well and staying safe, no matter where you are in the world today, I'm here with Kristina with a K and Matthew. Kristina, how are you doing?

I think it is a really good idea to do just a special podcast, helping you to have some vocabulary to talk about what's happening in the Ukraine right now. We know that a lot of you are naturally talking about it. I think we're all talking about it. And maybe you're looking for the vocabulary in English to talk about it, to be able to follow news reports, blog articles, conversations about it. So, let's jump right into it.
